Aftercare

The right aftercare for continued enjoyment

Hartman furniture is designed for enjoying the beautiful moments in life year after year. With the right care, you can enjoy them even longer.

Aluminium

Aluminium is not only beautiful but also easy to maintain. If is affected by neither radiation nor moisture and is naturally resilient to changes in climate and temperature. To prevent the aluminium from turning dull, all Hartman aluminium garden furniture is provided with a special powder coating. If you clean the protective layer twice a year, your garden furniture will remain in good condition for years. To clean, polish and protect the aluminium, use a soft sponge or cloth and a non-abrasive, pH-neutral cleaning agent, preferably a special Hartman Conditioning Agent, with plenty of water to avoid scratching the aluminium, for instance by sand being blown on the surface being cleaned. If you wish, after cleaning your furniture as described above, you can apply Hartman Universal Cleaner.

Warning!
We strongly advise against cleaning your aluminium garden furniture with a pressure hose or an aggressive cleaning and/or bleaching agent, which may well remove or permanently damage the coating or cause your valuable furniture to turn white.

Wicker

Wicker is a very popular material for garden furniture. No wonder, since wicker is naturally beautiful and can tolerate all weather conditions. You can enjoy your furniture almost all year round. All wicker garden
furniture consists of an aluminium frame with an extra protective layer (coating). High-quality plastic wicker thread is then woven around this coated frame. The thread used here is UV-resistant and therefore colourfast. You can leave your wicker furniture outside all year round, although we advise you not to use the furniture when frost sets, but to cover it with breathable covers and/or preferably to store it indoors. The reason for this is because frost makes the thread less flexible and may cause it to snap.

Aftercare
You can keep your wicker garden furniture in good condition by cleaning it twice a year and preventing damage to the wicker thread. To clean, use plenty of lukewarm water with a non-abrasive, pH-neutral detergent or warm water with a little bit of soda and a soft sponge or cloth and rinse with clean water from the garden hose. If the surface is not properly cleaned with soapy water, use a special resin cleaner. Your Hartman retailer can advise you on this.

Warning!
Do not use a pressure hose to rinse your wicker furniture, as this may damage the material! We strongly advise against cleaning your wicker garden furniture with abrasive and/or bleaching agent or an all-purpose cleaner. This may lead to tiny cracks in the plastic thread in which dirt will accumulate or cause the furniture to turn white and even cause irreparable damage.

Resin

Resin offers endless possibilities when it comes to making garden furniture and it is exceptionally user-friendly. Most resins consist of different types of materials. The chemical composition determines not only the life span of the resin but also the degree to which the garden furniture is UV, weather and wind-resistant. The innovative resins used in Hartman furniture are of the highest quality, making the furniture both flexible and stable, less sensitive to moisture and discolouration, and easy to keep clean. It will bring you years of summertime enjoyment.

Careful with heat and solvents
Even though we, at Hartman, love the sun, it is important to realise that resin is usually susceptible to heat. Marks left by a hot pan, for instance, is almost impossible to repair. Bear this in mind and always use coasters. Moreover, some resins are sensitive to certain cleaning agents that contain solvents. Please contact your Hartman retailer for advice on suitable cleaning products.

Care of resin furniture
With good care and annual maintenance, your Hartman resin garden furniture can last for many years to come. Hartman has a wide range of care products for this purpose. Ask your Hartman retailer about them!
Over time, your furniture may develop mould or mildew. This can be easily removed with special Hartman plastic cleaner or lukewarm soapy water with sponge, soft-bristled brush or cloth. Avoid using hard-bristled brushes, pressure hoses or abrasives as these may create cracks in the plastic in which dirt will accumulate. Rinse any dirt and soap off with plenty of water. Very dirty garden furniture can regain its original shine with Hartman Wax. To get years of enjoyment from your resin garden furniture, place them indoors during the winter and do not cover to avoid discolouration.

Recycled Teak

Hartman recycled teak tables have an exquisite, well-worn finish that gives each individual table a unique character. The tables are also sustainable as you have actually granted the wood a second life. As a recycled, natural product, each table (top) has its very own structure and finish. Unevenness in the dimensions and structure are properties of the wood itself. The tables can be used in any garden; from modern with clean lines to the more traditional kind. Recycled teak has a natural look and feel and, over time, develops a beautiful, silver-greyish tint. The scratch marks, dents, grooves, knots, discolouring, nail-holes and other markings are inherent to the material and, as opposed to affecting its longevity, they actually typify the character of the table!

Care of recycled teak
For the best results it is recommended that you clean the table thoroughly once a year. Do this using lukewarm water and natural soluble cleaning agents, like green soap or soda, and a soft scouring sponge or cloth to remove any dirt from your furniture. Leave the furniture to dry and then treat with Hartman teak protector using a soft cloth. If anything should ever get spilled on the table, you can clean it using a damp cloth. If, for whatever reason, stains have been left untreated for more than 24 hours, use fine sandpaper to lightly sand away the stain.

Warning!
Do not use a power hose or any aggressive cleaning agents when cleaning your furniture. Be careful when using fire, oils and grease or hot objects in the vicinity of your table as they can cause permanent damage. We would also advise you not to cover your furniture or to place decorative items like flowerpots, placemats, (plastic) tablecloths or other such objects on your recycled teak furniture as they can lead to permanent stains and/or discolouring.

Teak

Teakwood has a naturally high oil content which makes it soft to the touch, durable and resistant to rain. If left untreated, the natural colour will gradually weather to a beautiful, silvery grey. Teak is exceptionally suited for the construction of garden furniture, as it suffers from minimal shrinkage or warping and does not splinter. Hairline cracks and small surface scratches on the end grain are inherent to the material and do not affect the life span of the furniture. Care of teak If cleaned once to twice a year, your teak  garden furniture will remain in good condition for years.

Hartman has an extensive range of teak care products for keeping the furniture in excellent condition. If you prefer your teak garden furniture to have a natural look, it will be sufficient to remove accumulated dirt once a year, using Hartman Teak Cleaner and a soft scouring sponge. However, if you prefer to preserve the original colour, then you should treat the furniture twice a year with Hartman Teak Protector, which will also make the wood less susceptible to stains. Make sure that the wood is absolutely dry before you treat it with the Teak Protector, as moisture may cause the wood to weather. You can maintain the brass elements of your garden furniture by polishing them once a year with a greased cloth.

Warning!
We strongly advise against using a pressure hose as the hard jet of water may cause the surface to roughen.

Parasols

Parasols are one of the most popular sun protection products used. They create shade, provide protection against UV radiation and add to the ambiance of your garden. They bring extra panache to many sunny moments. To ensure that you will be able to enjoy your parasol for years to come, we use colourfast polyolefin or heavy-duty polyester fabric, which is provided with a special water and dirt repellent coating. Our parasols come with a high-quality aluminium frame, ribs with a height adjustable pole (telescopic system) with a crank and tilt mechanism or a free arm mechanism. Besides various models, the Hartman parasols are also available in many colours. We also supply a wide range of parasol bases.

Care of your parasol
To keep your parasol in good condition, always ensure that the parasol fabric is dry before brushing off dust or dirt, folding it up or storing it away in a special protective cover, in a sheltered, dry place.
To clean thoroughly, use a sponge and chamois. Spray the opened parasol with a garden hose. Do not use a pressure hose, as this can damage the water and dirt repellent coating! Rub the fabric down gently using a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Gently scrub the fabric clean and rinse off again with the garden hose. Leave the parasol open until it is completely dry!

Natural stone

Natural stone is one of the most durable natural materials available and comes in many types and colours. Although your natural stone table is very durable, it may eventually experience some wear over time. Fortunately, it can be reconditioned as many times as you would like. Hartman natural stone is provided with a protective layer. Rough tabletops have an impregnated protective layer that protects your table against dirt and grease. Our smooth-polished tabletops are treated with a coating that gives a beautiful gloss to the surface.

Care of natural stone
Natural stone is very easy to maintain. A regular wipe with lukewarm water and a dash of conditioning agent is recommended. Your Hartman retailer can advise you on the appropriate conditioning agent. General cleaning should be done using a well-wrung out sponge or soft cloth. Spillages - wine, orange juice, ketchup, etc. - can be removed by first dabbing them away as well as possible and then wiping the surface of the table with lukewarm water and a dash of conditioning agent. You can use Hartman Stone Protector to protect your natural stone against grease or stains.

Polywood

Polywood is an artificial composite with the appearance and structure of wood, which can expand or shrink at very high temperatures. Polywood has a rough matt surface and a greyish finish.

Maintenance
A polywood tabletop is easy to look after. This can be done by wiping your table using lukewarm water. Always rinse out the sponge or soft, fluff-free cloth thoroughly. Should you happen to spill wine, orange juice, ketchup etc. on the tabletop, you should first pat it dry and then clean it using lukewarm water and a soft detergent. We would recommend that you treat your table with Polywood Protector on a regular basis.

Warning!
Do not use a power hose to hose down your furniture! The high pressure can damage the material. Neither should you use any aggressive cleaning or scouring agents as they can result in permanent stains or other damage. Hartman also recommends that you do not cover your furniture for long periods of time with any form of decoration as they can also lead to permanent stains and/or discolouring. Be careful at all times when using fire, oil and grease or hot objects in the vicinity of your table as they can cause permanent damage.

Perfectstone

Hartman Perfect Stone is part of a new and revolutionary product category that came about in the last decade to meet more demanding architectural and design needs. It is not at all what is known as traditional "ceramic" or "stoneware" but rather evolved from these materials to the point that a new type of surface was created which was non-existent up until that time. Hartman Perfect Stone pertains to and is pioneer in the Sintered Compact Surface industry. Perfectstone is made of 100% natural based on 3 groups of elements; minerals from granite which provide the product with hardness and strength, minerals from glass and silicia that provide chemical stability and natural oxides that offer chromatic properties.

What is Sintering? How is Hartman Perfect Stone produced?
The Sintering Technology replicates in just a few hours the process by which stones are naturally created over a period of thousands of years. It consists of subjecting the raw materials described above to very high pressures and temperatures. The combination of raw materials goes through a press in a first phase where force/pressure of up to 400 bars is applied. In a second phase, the boards are placed in an oven where they are cooked at temperatures of more than 1200ºC. This process produces an ultra-compact decorative full-body surface (17 colors in the repertory to date)

Care of perfectstone
Perfectstone is very easy to maintain. Hartman Perfect Stone is made of natural materials and is produced at very high temperatures and pressures which make it highly scratch and impact-resistant. However, sudden impacts, excessive temperatures and improper use can damage the surface of the material just like with any other surface. *Take special care with ceramic knives: Ceramic knives can scratch a Hartman Perfect Stone surface irrespective of the finish just as they scratch other brands of the same and other product categories

Ceranite

Hartman ceranite tabletops are hardwearing and easy to maintain. Ceranite is a composite (stone compacted under high pressure), which means that it is a natural material with a unique character and finish. Signs of wear and tear can therefore develop over time which, if desired, can be avoided with the application of a coating. The tables have all been provided with a special protective coating.

Maintenance
Maintenance of a composite table is easy, provided you use the right materials and follow the instructions carefully. Wipe your table regularly using a damp sponge or soft, fluff-free cloth and lukewarm water. Should you happen to spill stubborn substances like wine, orange juice, coffee, ketchup, mayonnaise, curry or oil-based products like salad dressing or garden lamp oil, then these should be wiped off immediately using a cloth/kitchen towel, after which you should wipe the table using a soft cloth and lukewarm water. The longer you wait to remove stubborn substances like these, the more difficult it becomes to remove the resulting stains.

Warning!
Do not use a power hose to hose down your furniture! The high pressure can damage the material. Neither should you use any aggressive scouring or bleaching agents, detergent cloths or all-in-one detergents. These can cause cracks in which dirt can collect. The furniture can even turn white in colour or suffer permanent damage. Hartman also recommends that you do not cover your furniture for long periods of time with any form of decoration or other objects as they can lead to stains caused by weathering or mould. Do not place any sharp or hot objects, such as saucepans or candles, on the table as these can scratch or burn the table. Also be careful at all times when using fire, oil and grease or hot objects in the vicinity of your table as they can cause permanent damage.

Spraystone

Spraystone is a mix made up primarily of artificial imitation stone that is sprayed onto shatterproof glass. This results in a hardwearing, scratch-free and practical tabletop, which does not fall short in terms of look & feel when compared to natural stone. Hartman spraystone furniture is treated with an impregnated protective layer that protects your table against dirt and grease.

Maintenance
Spraystone is very easy to maintain. Wipe your table regularly using a soft brush or sponge and lots of lukewarm water with a splash of natural detergent. After cleaning, use a garden hose to hose down the table so as to remove any remaining soap. Should you happen to spill wine, orange juice, oil or ketchup on the tabletop, pat it dry with a damp cloth and then wipe the table using lukewarm water and a pH-neutral cleaning agent. Make sure all of the soap has been rinsed off.

Warning!
Do not use a power hose to hose down your furniture! The high pressure can damage the material. Neither should you use any aggressive scouring or bleaching agents or all-in-one detergents. These can cause cracks in which dirt can collect. The furniture can even turn white in colour or suffer permanent damage. Hartman also recommends that you do not cover your furniture for long periods of time with any form of decoration or other objects as they can lead to stains and/or discolouring. Be careful at all times when using fire, oil and grease or hot objects in the vicinity of your table as they can cause permanent damage.
